Excavator up in flames

An excavator went up in flames at a work site in Revelstoke, Tuesday.

The fire was called in shortly before 10 a.m. at Downie Timber.

Fire Chief Rob Girard says the machine was fully involved when crews arrived.

"Firefighters extinguished and overhauled the fire in just under 15 minutes, with no injuries," he said.

The fire was a priority because of its location on mill property, surrounded by lumber and sawdust.

"Lucky for us, the excavator was located in a relatively safe spot," he said. "Revelstoke Fire Rescue definitely realizes how important the mill is to our community, and protecting it is paramount."

The cause of the fire was mechanical in nature.
