Two motorists were slammed with fines after flicking cigarette butts from their vehicles near Clearwater.
RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services issued two $575 fines in the past week.
An officer witnessed one driver throw out the cigarette when driving behind him.
“This Alberta driver received a $575 ticket and a lengthy lecture from police,” said Cpl. Steven Schenkeveld.
The driver said he had just purchased the vehicle and it “was not equipped with an ashtray.”
Police were conducting a road check in Barriere when they spoke to a B.C. motorist and when he drove away he threw a lit cigarette out the window.
"Officers subsequently extended the motorist's visit and issued the driver a $575 fine for his actions,” said Schenkeveld.
RCMP said they will continue to monitor drivers and violations of the Wildfire Act and Wildfire Regulations can result in fines up to $1150.
