Tourist killed taking photo

A woman visiting from Quebec is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while taking a photograph at a popular tourist road pullout near Field.

Golden RCMP responded to a collision on Takkakaw Falls Road about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of a 2017 Kia was travelling northbound when it crossed over to the southbound lane and into the pullout, striking the woman.

The collision occurred in an area that sees a high volume of tourist traffic.

Police said the woman was 54 and was visiting from out of province with her husband.

Witnesses told police the driver narrowly missed a second pedestrian prior to rear ending a vehicle.

“Alcohol was not a factor in this collision,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

The driver and his passengers were transported to Banff hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and the cause of the collision is unknown at this time.
