Rescue in ravine

UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was able to successfully perform a high-angle rescue of a man who fell down into a ravine off Highway 97.

The man was brought up, checked over, and transported by ambulance to hospital.


ORIGINAL: 3:45 p.m.

A northbound lane of Highway 97 between downtown Westbank and Gorman's mill has been closed while crews attempt to get to rescue a man who went over the bank.

A 45-year-old man was apparently walking in the area when he lost his balance and fell.

According to one witness, emergency crews are set up in the dip on the highway as it enters downtown Westbank at the the steep Powers Creek Canyon.

Traffic is already backing up well past the mill.

No word on the extent of his injuries.
