Onrait loves the Okanagan

TSN hasn't been the same since Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole left the anchor desk in 2013.

The pair spent a decade hosting the late-night SportsCentre show, but got lured to Fox Sports Live in The U.S. until being cut by Fox in March. Shortly afterwards, it was announced they would be back in the fall to host SC with Jay and Dan.

Onrait said the gap allowed him to come and visit family in the Okanagan.

"Normally, we only get to come up to Kelowna for one or two weeks, but I was lucky enough to get fired in March and I had all this time off, so it worked out really well. I was in Kelowna for six weeks with my wife and my two year old," Onrait said.

The sportscaster has returned here often. His parents have lived here since 1997.

"I loved the Okanagan as a kid, and it still is just a super special place for me," he said.

Onrait said he's happy to be back on Canadian soil.

"We are very excited to be back at TSN. We had a great time at Fox, but Toronto is really home. From a job perspective, it will be really nice to cover hockey again. I knew hockey wasn't a major priority in the States, but I didn't realize how way down in the pecking order it is," he said.
