Kelowna General Hospital will again be the recipient of proceeds from a charity tennis event this weekend.

The 16th annual Celebrity Tennis and Bocce by the Lake event takes place at the home of Walley Lightbody on Abbott Street.

The event has become a tradition within the local tennis community, with about $750,000 raised to date to advance cardiac care and rehabilitation services at the hospital.

Money will go towards equipment for the new Interior Heart and Surgical Centre, along with exercise equipment at the C.O.A.C.H. cardiac rehabilitation program.

“Walley and his commitment to philanthropy, even in the wake of Marietta’s passing, is nothing short of inspirational,” said event organizer Bettina Muller of the KGH Foundation.  

“We’re honoured to be involved, and so thankful at the generosity of all of the participants, who are making a big impact in this community.”

This year's weekend also includes a 25-kilometre scenic cycle and a bocce tournament. The event runs Friday through Sunday.
