Cop charged over crash

A charge of driving without due care and attention has been approved against a member of the Lumby RCMP detachment over a crash on Highway 6 near Vernon on Aug. 6, 2016, according to a statement from the BC Prosecution Service.

The incident involved a collision between an RCMP truck driven by Const. Megan Valenta, who was on duty at the time, and a motorcycle with a Kelowna couple on board. The husband and wife were transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash was investigated by the Independent Investigation Office (IIO) which wrapped up its probe last week.

An Information charging Valenta with a single count of driving without due care contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act was sworn July 31 in Vernon provincial court. An appearance in the case has been scheduled for Sept. 14.
