Enderby Cliffs rescue

A man suffered a suspected broken ankle while out with friends on the Enderby Cliffs Sunday afternoon and had to be rescued by Vernon Search and Rescue.

A search crew headed for the area about 3.5 kilometres along the trail around 5:20 p.m., said Pete Wise, a search manager.

“We got the call from (BC Ambulance Service) about an injured male on Enderby Cliffs,” said Wise. “We sent in a 16-member ground team with a wheeled stretcher.”

Wise said the large team went in because it was felt the windy conditions might not allow a rescue by helicopter.

However, while first aid was being applied, BC Air Rescue One was able to get to the area.

Vernon's winch rescue team lifted the man into the helicopter and flew him to a waiting ambulance.

Wise admitted the gusty winds were a concern for the chopper crew but luckily conditions calmed just ahead of the rescue.
