The winner of Challenge Penticton came from behind to win in dramatic fashion.

The triathlon took place Sunday, with athletes from all over the world competing in the 1.9-km swim, 90-km bike and 21.1-km run.

For the majority of the event Leon Griffin, 37, was in second place. He was feeling "strong" going into the the run, the final portion of the race.

"It's three legs you never know what is going to happen and if you don't give up maybe you can pass the guy with a couple of k's to go," said Griffin, winner of 2017 Penticton Challenge.

Griffin won the event in a time of 3:59:48, followed closely by Nathan Killmam with a time of 4:00:43, and third Shawn Wilyman with a time of 4:05:25.

The first female to finish was Claire Robinson who was 15 overall, crossing the line at 5:02:38. Robinson was just in front of Kristi Buescher, 5:03:16.

Penticton came together with more than enough volunteers and the race ran exceptionally smooth, according to Cathy Walker, director of operations.
