Moviemaker returns home

Peachland moviemaker Andrew Huculiak has returned home to film his second dramatic feature.

I'm Not A Bad Person is set to begin filming Aug. 15.

The movie is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed "Violent," lauded by the Hollywood Reporter as “hurling a brick for Canadian newcomers.”

The film was named Best Canadian Feature Film at the Vancouver International Film Festival, and was considered for Canada's entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.

Huculiak's band, We Are the City, created the music for Violent, and also released an album of the same name.

“We aim to make a truly Canadian film,” says Huculiak, who was Peachland's Ambassador in 2006-07, “and want to engage the community wherever possible.”

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland says it's great to see a movie being shot that puts the focus on a real B.C. town.

"These filmmakers plan to re-engage with their roots and immerse their team into the local atmosphere and then bring that to the big screen," said Summerland.

I'm Not A Bad Person will be directed by Andrew Huculiak and produced by his brother Josh.

Open casting calls will begin later this week.
