Expecting 1,000 evacuees

Group lodging has been prepared in Kelowna and West Kelowna for evacuees from fires throughout the Interior.

Emergency Social Services is prepared to accommodate in excess of 1,000 evacuees.

A reception centre has been set up at the Salvation Army, 1480 Sutherland Ave., and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. All people on evacuation order must register at the centre to receive assistance.

The YMCA is also offering free access for people on evacuation order who have identification.

Meanwhile, several fire departments in the Central Okanagan have deployed resources to assist with the Williams Lake fire.
