Searchers scour the lake

UPDATE: 6 p.m.

Police and search and rescue volunteers continue their efforts to locate a 23-year-old man missing in Okanagan Lake.

RCMP spokesperson Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau says eight people were on the boat when they stopped to swim in an area between Gyro Park and Kinsmen Park about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

They then boated towards the Bennett bridge when they noticed that one passenger was not on board.

They called 911 at 6:30 pm.

Today's search has not produced any results.

The RCMP's E Division Underwater Recovery Team is being brought in.

UPDATE: 2:05 p.m.

COSAR spokesperson Duane Tresnich says the search continues for a young man possibly drowned in Okanagan Lake.

The man was boating with friends Saturday when he jumped in for a swim. The boaters moved on, not realizing the man was no longer on board.

Trench said the boaters couldn't find their friend, and searchers were called in.

They worked until dark, and resumed their search this morning.

A COSAR boat, police boat and five kayakers are currently searching the area between Strathcona and Gyro beaches.

Tresnich reminded boaters, when they see COSAR's flashing blue light, to stay away from the area as their wake makes it harder to search the water.
