UPDATE: 4:05 p.m.

The Williams Lake Airport is surrounded by fire.

A person connected to the airport tells Castanet the airport property is surrounded by four separate fires, two of which are growing into one larger blaze.

Conditions are currently windy, and one of the fires at the north end of the airstrip has encroached onto airport property.

"There are 100-foot flames within sight of the apron, and some operators are evacuating their aircraft from the airport," the witness said.

He's currently staying put, as his crews are working on fighting the fires.

Two tanker groups are also working the scene, but will probably have to leave soon as the approach to the runway will likely be closed due to decreasing visibility, he added.
