All things beer!

BNA turns 2 June 1.

BNA will be releasing a special anniversary beer that day. The guests taps will be from Kelowna breweries Kettle River Brewing Co., Tree Brewing, and Boundary Brewing Company.

The CrAsian Food Truck will be on site from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and they are excited to be hosting One Big Table for a pop-up grocery store that features all things grown and crafted from within our beautiful province.

Their neighbours at Motovida Cycle will also be participating in the sidewalk party, showcasing their work, some moto apparel, as well as goods from Okanagan Lifestyle Apparel.

Pop by and say hello!

Wow! That was a lot of name dropping to start off an article, but I have room for more.

Head downtown this Sunday between noon and 4 p.m. and take a stroll through beautiful Kelowna while sampling and learning the craft of locally made spirits, beer and cider.

Swing by a variety of award-winning locations including Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery, Tree Brewing, Urban Distilleries, Sandhill Winery, BNA Brewing and B.C. Tree Fruit Cidery.

This is the summer launch of the Grapes to Grains Trail that is being hosted by BC Tree Fruits Cider Co. so put on your walking shoes or gear strap on your bicycle helmet, or maybe even bring along a designated driver and discover what the craftsmen of the heart of the city have to offer.

Complimentary tastings, limited release product, food trucks, and more.

Download the Trail map at www.grapestograins.ca.

Join Xchange Kelowna on Wednesday May 31 for our Beer Masters' Dinner with Phillips Brewing and Malting Co.

Four courses will be prepared by their Executive Chef Graydon Gliege and paired with four Phillips beers.

I'm sure Dean Irving will be there, but will Cam Colin be making an appearance that night? I don't know.

Man I like these paired beer dinners.

Start Fresh Kitchen is opening up in Landmark June 1. You might have already been lucky enough to have already tried some of their catering menu, but if not Michael Buffett will be sampling it from 2:30-10 p.m. on June 1 too.

There will be music and multiple vendors while they show off their hard at using historic elements of Kelowna in their building our space.

Schueler Group Benefits is once again sponsoring the YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids Sunday.

There will be hundreds of Y members and community friends raising funds and heart rates.

This is a fun, group event with high energy for every member of your family. There is a kids zone, great food, drinks, prizes and more.

Head over between 8 a.m.and 1 p.m. to help support the young children and families that need it the most.

Bike to Work Week starts on Monday and one of the reasons people don't ride is because their bike is not working properly and they are not sure how to fix it.

You can learn tonight at 5:30 p.m.

The Lion Cyclery loves to support people riding their bikes for transport and sport, so they’d like to help anyone who wants to learn a little about what it takes to keep their bike working and specifically how to change a flat tire in less than 10 minutes.

They’ll bring the beer and you bring your bike, and get ready to get your hands dirty.

I have been waiting for Bike to Work/School Week to start in hopes the media and the hype will make some drivers pay more attention to bikes. It's amazing what has happened out on the road so far this year.

So many people rush to beat the red light or are in too much of a rush to even come close to stopping at stop signs.

There, that is my politically correct rant about bad drivers. Have fun this week and be safe.

This week in my video blog, I talked about how to get your child free RESP money for their post-secondary education.

Make it a great week!

He found his man!

MGN Ventures is well known in Kelowna for their new home builds and renovations.

Owner Marc Lamarche is an experienced project manager of both residential and commercial spaces, but it’s his reputation for quality that makes him so highly sought after.

He has been incredibly busy since he started his Build It Better business and has needed a partner for a long time, but it has taken him some time to find that certain someone who could match his standards.

Well, he found his partner, so join me in congratulating Jon Morrison as the newest partner of MGN Ventures.

Jon comes with an incredible background, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for these two.

Another talented company has arisen this year as well. Kelly of Moskalyk has started Solid Earth Landscaping and he too is highly sought after because of his attention to detail.

Kelly does the plans and the installation of both residential and commercial landscapes.

Solid Earth Landscaping believes you deserve an oasis of your own, so let them craft a landscape you will love.

Perhaps MGN and Solid Earth should get together and have a coffee.

If you have a new house and a beautiful new yard, then you need to be walking in style when you come and go.

Thankfully, David and Lisa Broesky have opened Galibelle Shoes by Brazilian Design to help you look good.

When I first walked by their store this week there were four women already peaking in their windows and then my three girls joined them as a few of us husbands looked at each other and smiled.

They have some fun style and a lot of colours. Go and check them out.

I am a big fan of BNA because of the great food, beer and service they provide. I just found they do Sunday dinners for the family.

Every Sunday, their kitchen team brings you roast chicken with all the fixings – gravy, potatoes and vegetables.

Join them on your own or bring the whole family down.

Accelerate Okanagan has hired Spela Grasic as its new community curator.

Many of you are probably wondering what a community curator does just like Spela and I did too. She is responsible for building and supporting community in the new Okanagan Centre for Innovation.

What a cool idea! I just keep getting impressed by the tech community here in Kelowna.

You can read Heidi Mann’s full article about Spela here.

The 60th running of the Knox Mountain Hill Climb happens this weekend and this year it's shaping up to be an amazing event with new cars, faster cars and more drivers than ever.

Amy won’t let me enter the minivan again this year, so I have to get me something cooler for next year.

Watch my video blog this week to find out if you should be paying down your mortgage quicker or investing more. Once again, I blame the shoes for my sporting mishaps.

Make it a great week!

A first for Kelowna

I am sure most of you have seen Airbnb media, which showcases unique homes to book and experience a city like a local.

I am excited to say Kristin Leigh Fritz of Hoof Prints Barnyard has given Kelowna its first Vacation Farm Stay.

When you stay at Hoof Prints Barnyard, you can experience life in the country — cuddle animals, groom a pony, collect eggs and fresh veggies from the garden. I fully expect this to be a major hit.

Book now to avoid disappointment.

The 65th Annual Blossom Time Fair?  I’ve never heard of this before, but any event that runs for 65 years must have it figured out.

Join the four auxiliaries of KGH Foundation for a family friendly Saturday morning at Starthcona Park.

It will be featuring huge plant and craft sales, children’s activities — including bouncy house, face painting and fish pond — collectibles and treasures, home baking and pies, barbecue, musical entertainment and clowns.  Wow!

Tickets went on sale this week for the Rene Bourgault Legacy Golf Tournament and Synlawn has stepped again as this year’s title sponsor, but there are still plenty of sponsorship options if you wish to help out.

The proceeds go to the Kelowna Jaycees, which they put toward a Young Entrepreneurs Scholarship at Community Futures in Rene’s name.  Pretty awesome way to remember the amazing and great Rene Bourgault.

Buy your tickets and sponsorships right away before they sell out.

Rene and SynLawn are also being honoured next week for the funds he helped generate for the SPCA and Humane Society. The funds were used to install an area for distressed dogs and it’s quite sad how busy this space is.

You probably have been seeing the Sister City Association events gaining more and more popularity all over the city. That’s because they are doing events that are not the norm here in Kelowna.

Since their events continue to get bigger and bigger, they are looking for new members to join them. They hope to have people of all ages and industries to help them continue to build.

There are plenty of learning opportunities and community events  to be part of.

Contact Cathy Jennens at 250-862-2801 or via the website.

If you’re looking for a fun, running event you need to check out the The Hungry Hungry Half presented by Aspire Health and Performance.

This is a 5k, 10k, and half marathon June 3. You will run along Kelowna's waterfront and the rails and trails.

Along the way, you will find live music, sweet treats, and prizes for costumes and spirit.

If you need another reason to participate, know that all proceeds will be going to the Kelowna Community Food Bank to help them in their summer season.

Enjoy yourself this week as there is lots to do.

The Daffodil Ball is happening Saturday along with the Great Okanagan Beer Festival.

Okanagan Food Truck Fest is Thursday and Rutland May Days starts next Friday.

This week in my video blog, I explain why having just retirement assets in your financial plan is a problem.

Make it a great week!

Talk Nerdy To Me

I am in to year two of my column, so you will start to see some great events making their way back into the mix.

Metabridge today announced the 15 start-ups of 2017 that will join their program and gain mentorship and access to capital.

This Kelowna event takes place June 7-9  and for the ninth year it will be celebrating Canadian talent and tech innovation.

For the second year in a row, a local Kelowna company will be taking part.

Data Nerds is an industry leading real estate and property data API. Having just got back from Tech Stars in Colorado, I don’t know how anyone is going to be able to top this impressive company.

Oh and if you’re looking, Data Nerds is hiring.

Speaking of real estate tech, we need to congratulate Sam Richards for the opening of his Knew Reality Research Company.

Through market research consultation, they are assisting many different real estate targeted professionals in overcoming the challenge of navigating countless websites, opinions and statistics to understand the Okanagan’s market status.

If you need numbers and like Okanagan real estate, you need to contact Sam.

Have you ever heard of a whisky whisperer?  Me neither, but I want too.

Okanagan Spirits is offering a Whisky Whisperer Masterclass with John Clement, aka the Wandering Whisky Whisperer.

John will be educating and tasting some of the rare editions of whisky from the Okanagan Spirits family cellar so get your tickets quick because I know there isn’t many left.

Femme Fatale is rocking 2017!

Go and join the ladies next weekend as they bring you their eighth production themed Vegas. This show will have the dancers performing to artists that have held residencies around Sin City in the past and present.

Bombshell Tina M created Femme Fatale Burlesque in 2014 and is currently working with 55 ladies of different levels to accommodate every woman to empower them to be confident in their bodies on and off stage.

Check them out.

After all that drinking and eating, you will be happy to know that Mucho Burrito has opened its doors this week at Sopa Square.

When you read their story on their website, it says It’s LOCO when speed is more important than quality when it comes to food

I’m now both excited and hungry.  See you there today at noon for lunch.

I hope to also see you downtown this weekend supporting Play On Kelowna.

Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On is the world's largest street hockey game and also Canada’s largest sports tournament and festival. It holds the Guinness Book of Records title.

This event runs coast to coast and is for players of all ages and skill levels. I don’t think you can get a team in this year but remember this for next year.

This week in my video blog it took me 14 takes to get my ending. I blame my shoes though.

I hope this information helps you protect your family and goals.

Make it great week!
