The B.C. Lions are up for sale.
The owner of the franchise, David Braley, confirmed the rumour in an interview on the team's website on Friday.
“It has to be sold, I’m 75 years of age, I don’t want to be sitting here at 95, shaking, owning the franchise."
Braley has been battling health issues recently, including a three month stay in the hospital last year.
He bought the club in 1997, and says ideally, the team would go to a local owner, “I will make sure the franchise is transferred to somebody that looks after it, in the way that I would.”
There are “several people” interested in the team, according to Braley, with meetings already underway.
“A sale could occur this year, next year, or the year after. I’m under no duress to sell it, it doesn’t owe any money or anything, everything is paid for, we’re in good shape financially,” he said.
