Crown wraps up case

The prosecution wrapped up their case Wednesday in the second-degree murder trial for Grace Robotti.

Robotti has admitted to killing 26-year-old Roxanne Louie, the mother of Robotti's great-grandson, after the two got in a physical fight at Robotti's Penticton residence.

Robotti killed Louie with at least 26 blows to her head with a small crowbar, but Robotti says it was in self defence.

The Crown brought 17 witnesses to testify over the first seven days of the trial, which began March 21.

Several RCMP officers involved in the investigation into Louie's disappearance, and subsequently her murder, testified at the trial, including officers who interrogated Robotti.

Other witnesses included a friend of Louie's who dropped her off at Robotti's house on the evening before her death and forensic pathologists who performed Louie's autopsy.

Images of the injuries Louie suffered were shown to the jury, as well as video of Robbotti's Jan. 12, 2015, interrogation, shortly after her arrest.

The case in defence of Robotti will begin Thursday morning. Defence lawyer James Pennington says he does not know how many witnesses he will be calling to the stand yet.

The trial is scheduled to continue until mid-April.
