Record rain soaks city

They don't call it the Wet Coast for nothing.

Vancouver was soaked by record rainfall Tuesday, causing localized flooding throughout the region.

Vancouver International Airport recorded just under 30 millimetres of rain Tuesday, eclipsing a 61-year-old record for that date.

"The normal amount of rainfall in March is 114 millimetres. We've already picked up 170 and with more to come later this week, it may be one of the top three wettest (months of) March in the last 80 years," Matt MacDonald of Environment Canada told CTV.

Up to 80 mm is forecast to fall in some areas by this afternoon, easing to showers later in the day.

In the Okanagan, rain is expected to end late this morning, with a 60 per cent chance of showers later in the day and overnight. Showers are also in the forecast for Thursday.

So far, Friday is looking like your best bet for sunshine, with a partly cloudy forecast and a high of 14 C.
