Family of four dead in home

Four bodies found in a home in the area of Ashcroft on Friday have been identified as a family of four, including two young boys.

A funeral for the family is the subject of a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $40,000. The funeral will be for Harvey Volaine, Melissa Penner and their two sons. Kaylex Volaine was 10 years old, while his brother Ay was seven.

"During this difficult time, the family will need help with the unexpected costs of funeral services for 4 people," the GoFundMe page says.

The family was found in their home in a remote community called Saranagati Village near Ashcroft after a wellbeing check was performed by RCMP.

The community is a spiritual group of about 25 families settled in a 1600-acre property in the Venables Valley, according to its website.

“This tragedy has deeply impacted family and community members, both adults and children beyond what words can convey,” a statement from the community said following the incident.

“We send our most sincere condolences to family members of the deceased in this time of loss.”

RCMP and BC Coroners staff were reportedly on scene on Sunday.

It's not clear how the family died, but police say there is no threat to the community.
