Fintry a controlled burn

UPDATE: 3 p.m.

It turns out there is no cause for concern from the smoke emanating from the Fintry area.

BC Wildfire Management official Rachel Witt said crews are conducting a "burn trial."

Witt said a burn trial is a process used periodically to determine the fuel conditions of the forest floor.

"Crews will start a low intensity fire, and the fire behaviour will be assessed and studied," said Witt.

"They will see how specific fuel types will burn in a potential wildfire area."

Witt said it's unusual to conduct these tests in an area so visible.
