Snow falls on Connector

After months of record breaking high temperatures in the Okanagan, it seems the weather has a sense of humour, sending down slushy snow on the Connector just days before the long weekend.

Brian Mosychuk was driving Highway 97C at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening when the temperature dipped to -1 C and fluffy white stuff began pummeling the road from above.

“It was just at the summit, probably maybe three miles of it, but it’s slushy so you’ve really got to slow down,” Mosychuk said.

A significant amount of snow has fallen, covering the sides of the highway and the trees.

At lower elevations, rain is expected to continue through the long weekend, with temperatures hovering in the high teens in Kelowna.

The Environment Canada forecast for high elevation travel on the Okanagan Connector has ended for the season, presumably because snow in mid-May is unexpected.
