Highway crash kills 2

Two people have lost their lives after a head-on crash near Ashcroft.

The two-vehicle crash happened Tuesday evening on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Ashcroft Ranch.

According to the RCMP, a northbound pickup truck with two people collided with a southbound tractor-trailer with a lone driver. The collision happened in the southbound lane of the highway and both vehicles were engulfed in flames. Attempts to remove the two people from the pickup were unsuccessful.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to hospital in Kamloops with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say it is unknown why the pickup crossed into the path of the commercial vehicle. A witness says they noticed the pickup having difficulty staying within the northbound lane prior to the crash.

The incident is still under investigation.
