Holiday recipes: DIY Baileys

Holiday celebration would not be complete without all of the food groups, including a cocktail!

On Christmas morning my family usually has a mimosa or two (sparkling wine and orange juice) but Baileys or some other form of irish cream liqueur is another common one.

It can be even more fun if you want to try and make it yourself.

This year my mom decided to make a high-octane version, feel free to add as much or as little of the Irish whiskey as you like.

Homemade Irish cream liqueur

Original recipe makes four cups

  1. 1 cup heavy cream
  2. 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  3. 1 2/3 cups Irish whiskey
  4. 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
  5. 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  7. 1 teaspoon almond extract

Directions

  1. In a blender, combine heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, Irish whiskey (my mom used an entire bottle of Jameson), instant coffee, chocolate syrup, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  2. Blend on high for 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator (she found some bottles at the dollar store for this)
  4. Shake well before serving.

ENJOY, although perhaps not near open flame if you go with the whole bottle of Jameson.
