Massive drug bust

Update -- Oct. 16

Police began their investigation into the two men after what they’re calling a routine traffic stop was conducted on Aug. 22 in Kelowna.

At that time, a vehicle was pulled over in the area of Commerce Avenue, and police found one kilogram of cocaine and one kilogram of methamphetamines.

Those seizures were estimated to have a value of $250,000 and the entire haul is believed to have a street value of over $600,000.

No guns were seized in the investigation, but 500 rounds of various caliber ammunition were found.

Both men will appear in court on Dec. 15, 2014.

Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey says both men were known to police.

Kelowna RCMP have taken more illicit drugs off our streets.

On Oct 10, members of the Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Teams (SET) concluded a four week long drug trafficking investigation with the execution of simultaneous search warrants residences in the 200 block of Mills Road and the 1400 block of Crawford Road.

The searches yielded a significant amount of evidence to support the on-going investigation including drugs, cash, ammunition, body armour and property. The drugs have an estimated street value of $600,000.

In all, police seized:

  • 1.515 kilograms of Cocaine
  • 1.038 kilograms of Methamphetamine
  • 64.89 grams of Ecstasy (MDMA)
  • 224.2 grams of Heroin
  • 403 grams of Hashish
  • Over $18,500 cash
  • Approximately 500 rounds of various calibre ammunition
  • Body armour
  • Several vehicles including two newer pick-up trucks, three newer domestic cars, and an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) as proceeds of crime.

“The success of this operation was as a result of a combined effort between the Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Units, the Downtown Enforcement Unit (DEU) and General Duty Sections,” says Cpl. Jeff Meyers.

“It is believed that the amount of drugs seized as a result of this investigation will have a profound impact on the local drug trade."

As a result of this investigation a 30-year-old Kelowna man and a 34-year-old Kelowna man were arrested, each face four potential charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. Both were released for Court at a later date.
