UPDATE 12:00 - Criminal charges were not laid against the woman in this case. Police say she was handed an automatic 90-day driving ban and her motorcycle has been impounded for 30 days. According to Cst. Kris Clark, refusing a demand for a roadside breath sample carries the same penalty as a roadside fail.

An unidentified woman was arrested after a single vehicle crash involving her motorcycle.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Boucherie Road and Pritchard Drive Thursday afternoon.

The woman appeared to have turned from Boucherie onto Pritchard when police at the scene say she apparently spun out on the gravel and slid to a stop.

Cst. Kent Hall says the woman was checked over by BC Ambulance paramedics and did not appear to have sustained any injuries except for some light bruising.

"When we arrived we detected she may have consumed alcohol and been under the influence of alcohol while operating her motorcycle," says Hall.

"We read her the breath demand ,to which she has refused. That's why she was subsequently placed under arrest for refusing to provide a breath sample."

Hall says the refusal alone is enough to allow police to take a motorist into custody.

"If I have made the demand that a person is to provide a sample of their breath into an instrument at the side of the road - if they refuse that is an arrestable offence."
