Minivan clips team bus

Update 2:30 p.m.:

The bus that was struck by a minivan earlier Sunday afternoon was actually the team bus for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, who are in town to play the West Kelowna Warriors this evening.

All members of the team are reported to be fine and ready to play but the game was delayed as a second bus had to be brought in to drive the team members to the arena.

Allegedly the first bus was not safe to drive after the incident.

Fortunately no one was injured after a packed tour bus was clipped from behind by a minivan.

The accident happened on Hwy. 97 in the southbound lane just past the Westside Road bypass around noon on Sunday.

Witnesses on the scene say there was very little damage to the bus but the minivan's front end was severely damaged.

Ryan Tschritter tells us everyone did get out of the minivan unharmed but were visibly shaken.

"I did see the van spin around. I was heading into kelowna and saw it spin around and do 180 degrees facing the opposite direction," shared Tschritter.

People on the tour bus reportedly told witnesses the minivan had been swerving on the highway prior to the collision however this has not been verified.

Traffic heading southbound on Hwy. 97 was down to one lane and crawling for a short period of time Sunday afternoon.
