Oil slick on Okanagan Lake

Update 11:30 a.m. - Kelowna Fire Department officials say patrols of the area during daylight Friday morning turned up nothing. Platoon Captain Laurie Serres says it's unknown what it was or what caused it. "It didn't smell like gasoline," says Serres. "It might have been runoff from the road with all the rain or someone dumped something but we just don't know."

Original Story 7:45 p.m. - Platoon Captain Dale Calhoun says Fire and City officials were out on the lake Thursday night looking for an oil spill.

Clahoun says a resident called it in earlier in the day saying they had spotted a large spill on the water in front of the El Dorado Hotel.

Fire and city crews were out on boat patrols trying to find the spill, but the nighttime conditions made it impossible to spot anything on the water.

Calhoun says city crews will be back out on the water looking again at sunrise tomorrow.

The captain says it could just be bad runoff from sewage or rain may have left some slick on the surface of the water.
