Address: 2816 Tranquille Road
Gimli is a shy, nervous little cutie from a large litter - 10 kittens, that were rescued from a hoarding situation. As a result, he is somewhat under-socialized and nervous and will need a gentle introduction and time to adjust to his new home. He may initially want to hide or run away from people until he feels braver. He would likely do best in a home with no small children, a fairly calm atmosphere, with a guardian(s) with lots of time to dedicate to helping him settle in and building up his confidence. With lots of love, enrichment, and playtime Gimli will certainly blossom into a loving companion. Loud noises and lots of activity make this little one nervous. He might do well with another cat, and maybe even a calm dog, to show him the ropes, as long as they can be introduced slowly and the other animal is not annoyed by a bouncy baby. If you have time, patience, and love to give to Gimli, he looks forward to meeting you! A kitten is a lifetime commitment and will reward an adopter with a life of love. An adoption counseling session with our Adoption Staff is necessary before adopting any animal. Please note due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, our adoption process has changed. Please visit our website spca.bc.ca/adoption/how-to-adopt/ for more information. All adoptions are by appointment only once we have received an application.***Due to the high number of applications we receive for our animals, we will only be contacting potential adopters to further review their application. Emma is a friendly and sociable dog. She came to the shelter after her guardian passed away. She is housetrained and is used to being indoors and outdoors. She is crate trained. She is good with children. She has good obedience and knows how to "sit" and "shake a paw". We have limited information about Emma due to her owner passing away however she previously has had some dog reactivity. She may get along with some dogs and will need to learn how to interact positively with others. Emma likes to be with people and may get anxious when left alone. She will need to get used to spending time alone slowly a few minutes at a time. Emma is looking for a patient guardian who can spend lots of time with her. She has lots of love to give a lucky guardian. A behaviour counselling session with our Adoption Staff is necessary before adopting any animal to ensure success.

Meet Noah!Noah came to us as a stray, therefore his history is unknown. We do know that he is an absolute pleasure to be around! Noah takes his human interaction seriously and cannot get enough attention. He loves to wind around your legs, crawl into your lap and he gives the best headbutts! Noah was reported to be good with other cats from the previous Shelter he was transferred from, so would do fine with a resident cat with proper introductions. If you are looking for a friendly feline with an outgoing personality, please consider Noah!https://spca.bc.ca/survey/cat-adoption-application-kelowna/

If you're looking for an unusual but endearing cat, Orion (or Onion as we affectionately call him) may be your guy. He's no ninja but what he lacks in swiftness he makes up for in character and charm. Orion came to us as a stray with an entropic (eyelid and eyelashes are folded inwards) left eye. This is something usually seen in dogs, but luckily for poor Orion, he got surgery to relieve him of this irritation. Still, Orions eyesight does not appear to be 100% - he gets around very well but changes in his environment can temporarily confuse him. At times, Orion startles easily or sleeps very very deeply and so we think he may not have the best of hearing either. Orion has been a bit of an odd duck in our care, a cat whose personality we can't really pinpoint. He has moments where he is quite shy and moments where he can't stop rolling around asking for pets...in fact, rolling around on the ground seems to be his favorite pastime. He loves to snarfle up cat nip on blankets and can't get enough wet food. He loves to be brushed. Orion also recently had dental surgery to remove a broken canine and is now healing from that. If you think Orion is perfect just the way he is please fill out an online application. **In order to protect the health of our staff, volunteers and members of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we've made changes to our adoption process.1. Meet Yoda! This spunky little dude is a 5 year old Brussels Griffin mix. Don't let his small size fool you, he has a BIG personality! Despite losing his owner and being attacked by a dog, he has not skipped a beat and is ready for his forever home.Yoda is a lover. He is great with dogs when properly introduced and doesn't seem overly phased by cats. Probably because they are the same size as him! Due to his size though, if he was to have big brothers and sisters/friends they would need to know not to play rough or be too loud as this may can scare him. Yoda does not like it when his persons leaves and he gets rather anxious. He wants to be involved in everything you do, and therefore will need some help in understanding that leaving for a little bit, does not mean forever. He will thrive best in an environment with a good routine and a lot of patience. If Yoda seems like the cool little dude you've been missing in your life, and you think that you can offer him a home filled with attention, belly rubs and the stability he needs, then please submit an application or give us a call with your questions. Please note, Yoda is in foster and not in the shelter. Meet and greets are arranged only after an application is submitted and is deemed a good fit for Yoda's needs. 1. Submit an application: https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-shuswap/2. Please note we may receive multiple applications for one animal. Could beautiful Belle be your new BFF?This sweet pup is smart and loyal, and very affectionate towards "her" people. She is looking for an adult-only home with dog savvy guardians who can continue working with her on her fear of strangers at her own pace. Belle's new guardian will also have to help her rediscover her waistline, since she has enjoyed a few too many cookies! Her love of tasty treats does come in handy with training though, and she has already learned several commands such as sit, lie down and roll over. Belle is very playful and loves to goof around with you in her yard, which will help her lose a few pounds whilst still having fun.If you can offer this lovely lady a second chance at a forever home, apply online today!1. A diamond in the ruff, Bruno is looking for his pawfect match to help him shine. This beautiful shepherd knows some basics, but needs work with boundaries and impulse control. Bruno has never lived in a home before, so his person will need to be patient while he learns the ins and outs of the good life. Bruno is active, energetic, playful and affectionate. He loves meeting people and getting attention from them! Bruno loves people so much, he'd really rather not part from them at all. Accustomed to outdoor living, this big boy gets anxious when left alone in an unfamiliar space. He may be destructive if left for long periods. He would do best with someone who can spend lots of time with him. Bruno is looking for an active lifestyle where he'll get tons of attention and love! He's happiest when he has had opportunities for exercise, mental engagement and snuggles. "MIKE" is a big, friendly boy around 3 years old, mostly grey, with a white bib and white boots. He came in as a tame stray, and he’s now been neutered, and is ready to find his forever home. Mike is an uncomplicated fella. He likes food, he likes pets, and he likes a nice, soft blanket to make biscuits on. He’s got a lovely soft coat, and a beautiful purr, and has fantastic ‘just happy to be here’ energy. Mike turned out to have substantial fear around dogs, as even hearing a dog from another part of the building caused him to be very stressed and anxious. Because of that, we are only considering him for homes without dogs, and we would prefer to find him a home where he can be the only pet. Please contact Jenny at 250-558-8713 if you are interested in adopting Mike (text is preferred, but phone is available). This is Zara. Zara came to us as a stray so unfortunately we don't know her history. It's clear she has been loved at some point, she's extremely friendly and silky smooth. Her relationship with other cats here has been hit or miss so it is hard to say whether she would suit a home with other cats. Zara is a busy girl and loves to spend time rubbing against your legs and asking for attention. Zara is a young cat and lately has been showing us a lot of her playful side. Olive was surrendered to the Kamloops SPCA because she kept wandering off. She is a large, friendly dog who is used to being indoors and outdoors but primarily outdoors. She rides well in vehicles and likes to go on outings. She knows basic obedience such as "sit". Due to her tendency for wandering she will need a home with a secure yard and guardian who can keep her busy so she doesn't get bored and into trouble by wandering off. Typical of Great Pyrenees, she is free thinking and can be stubborn at times. For example, she has her own idea of which direction to go when out on a walk with a guardian. Being a big dog, she will drag you along if you're at the other end of the leash if she wants to go somewhere. Olive will require a confident guardian, preferably one with breed experience. Great Pyrenees require gentle, but firm and consistent training. They respond to encouragement and positive rewards. Being a guardian breed, they can be suspicious of strangers but are gentle, affectionate, and very loyal to their families. Olive is looking for a guardian who can spend lots of time with her. With time and patience, Olive will be a loyal companion to a lucky guardian! Due to Covid 19 we've made changes to our adoption process. To adopt please:1. Meet Chief!Chief came to the BC SPCA Kelowna Branch when his owner was no longer able to care for him. He is a favourite of our Volunteer Dog Walkers because he has excellent leash manners. Being a large Husky, Chief would require a lot of daily exercise and would make an excellent running or hiking partner. Chief enjoys playing around in the backyard and settles down very easily. This is Amelia. Amelia came to us in a group of 7 cats and we unfortunately don't know their history. For whatever reason, Amelia was the most socialized of the 7 and is quite cuddly. She adores a squishy bed and being "tucked in", so we think a home where she could cuddle up to her people at night and get lots of love would suit her. Amelia is young and shows a playful side too, she quite enjoys her toys and scratch post. Because Amelia has spent her whole life around cats we think a home with a feline friend would be great - she often naps with her sister here at the branch. Amelia won't be getting spayed until June 1st, but should be ready to go home soon after that.If you're interested in Amelia, please contact the Shuswap BC SPCA or fill out an online application.**In order to protect the health of our staff, volunteers and members of the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we've made changes to our adoption process.1. We are working with her on being more comfortable with a leash and harness as she can become quite overwhelmed.Luna is highly excitable and can be mouthy, so a home with no small children or cats would be best. She seems to be selective on which dogs she likes, and due to her exuberant personality, a meet and greet with a potential future fur-sibling would be needed. This sweet and shy boy is Bravo. He's a little under socialized and is fearful when meeting new people. He will do best in a quieter house where someone will be patient with him and show lots of love and affection. Because he is fearful of strangers and loud noises he needs a home with no young children. Bravo has done amazing at learning at wear a collar and walking on a leash. Once he's warmed up to people he loves quiet sitting time now but we can see him enjoying hikes and other adventures in the near future. Bravo does need slow introductions when meeting other dogs as he gets quickly intimated by them. He will require a home with no small animals (i.e cats, chickens etc.) Bravo has so much potential! and we know he will melt your heart like he has melted ours here.A behaviour counselling session with our Adoption Staff is necessary before adopting any animal to ensure success in the new home. Likes: Window sill surfing, a predictable routine, being under furniture.Dislikes: Change, not being able to hide when she becomes overwhelmed.About me: Spirit came to us when she was found abandoned in an apartment suite. She is a very sweet cat who appreciates her surroundings to be calm and quiet. In foster care she did hide under the couch for the first couple of days, so she may exhibit that behavior at first until she adjusts to her new home (although she 'hid' within reach right at the edge so she could roll onto her back for tummy rubs). While we are still getting to know her preferences, we do know she likes to be with people once she feels secure, and is appreciative of chin and cheek massages. She will also sleep with you at night offering her calming purrs. Spirit is really a lovely cat who will be an amazing companion with her charming personality.
