2014 Okanagan Humane Society Total Pet Golf Tournament and Silent Auction Fundraiser

May 7, 2014

There is a crisis in our valley. The cat population from un-spayed females is rising every year, resulting in more being abandoned causing an ever increasing cycle of unwanted kittens. We struggle as best we can with the small amount of donations and money we raise through fundraisers like this one to help the low income families of this wonderful valley we call home to spay/neuter their pets. Our foster homes are already full of kittens yet we keep receiving calls of help from those that could not afford the spay/neuter costs, whose cats are already pregnant and are looking for a way out of their dilemma.

Last year the Okanagan Humane Society received over 900 applications for spay/neuter financial assistance from low income families. We were able to help 771 families. As of the end of April of this year we had already received over 300 applications.

Although we have no shelter or staff, we manage to adopt out in excess of 170 kittens and cats every year. These are fostered in our own homes, mostly at our own expense and are the by-product of unaltered pets. More often than not these unaltered pets produce more kittens than homes are available for, therefore they become the basis of new colonies of unwanted and forgotten felines. And the circle continues….

People turn to us when all other avenues have been exhausted. We go way above and beyond to help as many as possible but the line is always longer than our purse strings allow. Please, we cannot continue without your support.

We hope to raise enough money with our golf tournament to help 100 low income families spay/neuter their pets. We can not do our work without fundraisers like this one and the fundraisers are not a success without the generous people who donate their money and their time to participate.

Please, help us to reach our goal. Sign up for a fun-filled day of golf at Sunset Ranch Golf Course on June 6 at 1:00 pm (registration is at noon) and help us lower the pet overpopulation today.

Golfer fee is $150.00 per person including use of a golf cart and the meal. Meal only tickets are available for $50.00 each.
