Okanagan Gymnastics Centre’s Lucia Jakab Earns A Place in
The Canadian High Performance Gymnastics Program


Kelowna, BC – 2019 was a tough year for competitive gymnast, Lucia Jakab. Jakab suffered an injury in March 2019 that left her unable to train until mid-January 2020, and unable able to attend the 2020 Elite Canada Competition. This competition qualifies gymnasts for High Performance status and is the preferred pathway for athletes aspiring towards the National Team.

Since being cleared to train again in mid-January Jakab has been working tirelessly to recover her skills and recently she received news that her hard work had payed off. Jakab’s coaches, Sergei Chelest and Yohandy Diaz, submitted a petition and videos to the selection committee and based on her skills and their level of difficulty, she was accepted as a Senior High Performance Gymnast. Jakab is one of only 28 women in Canada to qualify. An amazing achievement for this local gymnast and her coaches!

Jakab and her coaches now have their sights on National Championships in Quebec this May.
