CFSOS Grant Recognition
Thanks to Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen for providing a grant to the Penticton Boys and Girls Club to enable more free and affordable activities to the youth of Penticton. Because of this grant, the Boys and Girls Club has been able to hire a coordinator to plan and run events and activities for youth 12-24.  Youth also play an important part in providing input into planning and types of activities, and we have seen increased attendance over the year and more interest and support for groups and events.

Events that have taken place during the year include: Gym and Swim with the Penticton Rec Centre; Holiday Hangout; pool at the Cues game room; tie-dye event; karaoke with Yanti Rowland; paint night with Jenny Long; bowling at Roll n Stones Fun Centre; Sand Castle Contest, Games Day; and many more including YES Youth Advisory Committee for Foundry Penticton

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) for Foundry Meetings are open to all young people in the community ages 12 to 24 years old. The meetings are to guide, inform and to support the development and planning of future events, groups, and projects. The Committee leads in the identification of the needs of our local youth and community, and advocates with other organizations, funders, and partners to find solutions. Our YAC meetings occur once a month from 3:30 p.m. o 4:30 p.m. at the Youth Resource Centre at 501 Main Street.  Upcoming meetings are Aug 14th, Sept 18th, Oct 16th, Nov 13th, Dec 11th and any youth interested in finding out more are always welcome.

The funding has also enabled us to be involved in a wider range of activities and has created unique opportunities for young people to not only participate in activities but also take the lead in developing ideas for the upcoming year. #FoundryRocks started as an activity to spread the word about Foundry Penticton but is becoming more of a movement for youth to help each other with wellness information. Other new events planned include cooking from around the globe with SOICS (South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services), 30 minute hit fitness classes, dungeons and dragons, Song Catching, Escape Room, Pottery Class, Adulting 101 Classes, Skate Night and many more.  For more information about events and activities, they can be found on Facebook at Foundry Penticton or Melisa Rec.

If you have an idea or would like to Partner for an event please contact the Penticton Youth Recreation Coordinator, Melisa at [email protected] or call (250) 488-0992. Melisa works for the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club Thanks to a Community Foundation Grant.
