Bahá’ís of Lake Country marked the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh, Founder of the Bahá’í Faith
LAKE COUNTRY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, October, 22, 2017 — Bahá’ís of Lake Country marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, on October 22, 2017.

The celebration began at 2:00 pm at the Beasley Park Community Hall with approximately 65 participants, including Mayor James Baker and His wife, and Central Okanagan MLA Mr. Norm Letnick. The program consisted of a video presentation on the life of Baha'u'llah, several pieces of inspirational music by two local musicians, speeches by Mayor Baker and MLA Norm Letnick, and the reading of special messages from the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Assembly of first nations, Mr. Perry Bellegrade, Proclamation by the mayor of Kelowna, Mr. Colin Basran and the British Prime Minister Theresa May. At the end of the formal program, the participants planted a London Plane tree in Beasley Park in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Birth of Baha'u'llah, followed by refreshments.

Bahá’u’lláh (1817-1892) was a spiritual teacher who announced in 1863 that He was the bearer of a new revelation from God. His teachings have spread around the world, forming the basis of a process of social transformation and community building which is unique in its global scope and the diversity of participants.

The worldwide commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha'u'llah is a celebration of the transformative impact of Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings on the lives of families, neighborhoods and communities in Canada and around the world. Bahá’u’lláh’s vision of the oneness of humanity is an antidote to the racial prejudice and materialism that are threatening to annihilate our universal human experience by dividing us according to our nationality, the colour of our skin or our wealth. Now more than ever,we need positive models of social change that unite all of us as a single human race, in order to create the re-generative process which is powerful enough to reverse these corrosive influences. The Baha'is believe that Baha'u'llah's life and Writings present such a model to today's human society.
