Diabetes is Hitting the Streets in the Okanagan in May

Feb 28, 2014

The Canadian Diabetes Association will be "hitting the streets" with a "door to door" campaign from May 1st to May 31, 2014.

Diabetes is quickly becoming a global epidemic. Today, 9 million persons in Canada are challenged with Diabetes. An estimated 250 million people are affected globally. Most people don’t realize that is the world’s 4th leading cause of death. In North America, an estimated 1 in 3 children born in 2000 or later will develop diabetes in their lifetime.

Our mission is to lead the fight against diabetes by helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure.

There has been no Residential Campaign for many years in the Interior B.C. Region. This year, we are looking for 2,500 volunteer canvassers in the Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops, Penticton and Williams Lake area.

You can make a positive difference in your community! Choose to canvass in your own neighbourhood, at your workplace, amongst friends and family, or donate. Take the challenge to volunteer.

We need people who are willing to volunteer 1- 2 hours of their time during the month of May. Students may also qualify for volunteer credit hours through our program.

The power of our collective efforts can make a significant contribution towards helping the lives of approximately 420,000 BC residents with diabetes.

To offer your help please call today. Contact Cheryl Stone, Regional Campaign Coordinator, at (250) 762-9447 or 1-888-628-9494, email: [email protected]
