Jul 22, 2016
The 7th annual 6 day SASFY Summer Arts Scene For Youth in Central Okanagan summer arts school workshops program, on the theme " In the Land of the Okanagan - the nature-arts connection" is about to opens its doors August 8-13th. This fun, and unique inter-connection of the arts opportunity for youth ages 8-16 has received rave reviews since its inaugural commencement in August 2010. The exceptional program, in the ideal modern state of the art GESS facility with Creekside Theatre, provides youth an awesome creative experience to learn, blossom and excel and make new friends from the valley, province, across Canada and abroad. A mystery donor has come forth to provide 8 partial sponsorships, still available, each in the amount of $125.00 to assist families in financial need with talented youth to attend this amazing arts school program. SASFY collaborates each year with SD#23 and provides a convenient shuttle bus service for students from the West Kelowna and Kelowna areas to the GESS and Creekside Theatre venue with 3 ideal drop- off and pick-up locations. All snacks and lunches are included in the tuition cost along with a culminating Saturday showcase event & arts exhibition that is open to the general public free of charge. An exclusive Okanagan faculty team of 15 workshop presenters with a wealth of talent, and regional, national and international experience are keen on sharing their passion with youth and giving back to the community. Students are required to pick 3 workshops, one in each of the 3 segments from an impressive & diverse variety of visual, language and performing arts disciplines: culinary arts, musical theatre, paverpol ( or cloth sculpture), stone sculpture, creative photography, graphic design, multi media - masks, poetry through creative arts fusion, theatre, animation, drumming, ceramics, contemporary felting and nature sculpture. There is still space availability to be part of this top quality program that has received Okanagan recognition with the 2016 ARTSCO community impact award for educational excellence. For a summer twist in doing something creatively different and still being part of the SASFY action, join Anna Jascyszyn in singing her SASFY IS FOR ME song and be part of her jazz workshop, be totally immersed in creative arts fusion with Jenelle Mitchelle and feel the Okanagan rhythmic drum beat with Jim Copeman at the drums!
