MacDermott’s 20th Anniversary
Apr 1, 2015

Wayne and Jay MacDermott moved to Kelowna in 1994 with the lifelong dream of opening their own men’s clothing store. Wayne had been in the clothing business since 1974 and was ready for the big show. That dream became a reality in April of 1995.
The Kelowna market was ready for designer fashion brands previously only available in Calgary, Vancouver and beyond. Combined with great service, an in-house tailor shop and a lot of hard work, MacDermott’s started to make their mark in Kelowna.
In 2005 MacDermott’s underwent a major renovation adding over 2000 square feet of retail space. With this addition came the extra space needed to start carrying a full range of shoes and boots. Also included was the Tommy Bahama shop-in-shop. Now carrying both men’s and ladies’ fashions, it was the only store of its kind in North America.
2012 was another milestone year for MacDermott’s. Just 3 blocks down Bernard Ave, a second store, MacD’s Lakeside was opened. MacD’s Lakeside is Kelowna’s destination for casual wear and the new home of an expanded selection of men’s and ladies’ Tommy Bahama. With the relocation of Tommy Bahama from MacDermott’s, there became space for the unique Robert Graham shop-in-shop and Wayne’s personal man cave.
MacDermott’s continues to evolve. MacD’s Lakeside operates as an outlet store through the winter months giving Kelowna premium brands at outlet pricing. MacDermott’s has also added in a second shop-in-shop concept – John Varvatos.
The stylish men of Kelowna have come to trust the staff at MacDermott’s and when Wayne says “This is for you, you’re buying itâ€, you listen. With over 40 years of experience in the men’s wear business, it’s fair to say he really knows his stuff.
