PRESS RELEASE

Kelowna and Area Residents Now Able to Have Their Hearing Assessed in Their Own Homes

Thanks to advances in technology, it’s now possible for those who find it difficult to get out to have their hearing assessed at home.

One of the problems with audiological testing is the sound booths and bulky testing equipment. Manufacturers recognized the need for in-home hearing assessments for a certain percentage of the population who aren’t able to go to a conventional clinic. This new wave of portable testing equipment helps those who can’t get out but are suffering from hearing limitation. New digital technology allows for precise testing in the home without ever having to step inside a sound booth. Okanagan Mobile Hearing Services is the first to offer this comprehensive service in the Kelowna region.

Once the patient’s hearing has been assessed, the practitioner can prescribe the hearing instruments that best enhance the user’s hearing.

Hearing loss affects over 25% of the population of people over the age of 65.

Who this service is for:
• Older individuals who cannot easily get to appointments due to mobility challenges
• Those who want more control over how they hear in their own environment – after all, hardly anyone lives in a hearing clinic
• Sons and daughters of older patients who want assurance their parent’s hearing needs are taken care of in a personal, professional manner

Okanagan Mobile Hearing Services addresses the need for hearing assistance by meeting the patient in their own environment. By taking the “house call” approach, patients feel more comfortable with the process – from hearing assessment through to prescribing the right hearing instrument for them. Okanagan Mobile Hearing Services will meet patients in residential care homes, retirement resorts and private residences.
