SHOP LOCAL! Downtown Vernon businesses are open and extending business hours for holiday shopping. Starting November 28th downtown businesses will be open Fridays until 8pm, Saturdays 10am-5pm, and Sundays 12pm-4pm with free parking for all extended holiday shopping hours.
Friday nights will have Downtown Vernon brimming with activity during extended holiday shopping hours. Bring the kids down to share their wish lists with Santa every Friday night, take advantage of special holiday discounts, and revel in the warmth and spirit of the season! Downtowns Grand Giveaway, ‘What’s in the Box’, has everyone curious and Lara Konkin, Executive Director of the DVA, is thrilled about the participation from merchants. ‘We are so excited about the prizes in ‘What’s in the Box’! Downtown merchants have gone over and above this year with prize donations exceeding $20,000.00. Several lucky shoppers will walk away with some remarkable holiday gifts!’ When asked about the prizes for ‘What’s in the Box’, Konkin wouldn’t be specific but she did mention one winner having to pack a bag!
Customers will also be able to shop without plugging the meter starting November 28th running through to the end of December. At the request of the Downtown Vernon Association, the City of Vernon has waived on-street parking fees to support shopping locally. ‘Customers want to support local businesses by spending their money near where they live and work and in turn supporting things that make this community great!’ Konkin states. ‘People won’t have to travel to shop this season because of the extended holiday hours and they will save at the meter as well’.
Downtown doors will also be open from 12pm-4pm for special Sunday holiday shopping. Merchants are busy decorating their shops and illuminating their windows tirelessly working to create a truly unique holiday shopping experience. ‘It really is a perfect time to get into small independently owned shops. They work to bring customers unique one-of-a-kind gift ideas and the range of products and services available is truly amazing!’ says Konkin. ‘We anticipate a very busy holiday season downtown’.
