Media Release: Brides who DIY can save money and recoup costs
For Immediate Release: Sept 2nd, 2014 Kelowna, BC
In a recent study, BMO asked couples how much they were planning on spending on their weddings. They found the average couple in BC plans on spending about $14,177 on their wedding, this falls well short of the actual average cost of $23,458. So, in an effort to cut some costs, many brides are looking at DIY projects for all or part of their weddings. According to Weddingbells.ca, “when it comes to DIY projects, brides are most likely to tackle reception decor, centrepieces and guest favours themselves. Incorporating “do-it-yourself†elements has quickly become a popular trend.â€
With the peak wedding season of 2014 coming to an end, many brides find that they are left with wedding decor that they have only used once! This fall, the Kelowna Bridal Swap plans to help past brides sell their gently used wedding accessories and decor to next season’s brides. On Sept 28th, at the Laurel Packinghouse, past brides can rent tables to sell their wedding items and also help raise a little money for charity. A portion of the proceeds for this event will go to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. Tables are required to be pre-booked and can be done by emailing [email protected].
The event runs from 11am - 3pm, with a special VIP session from 10am-11am. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for the general public, and a limited number of VIP tickets are available to purchase in advance. The VIP event allows a small number of future brides to get early bird access to the items available for sale. Along with used wedding accessories and decor, there will also be a limited number of wedding exhibitors at the event.
