Metallics

This is my favourite time of year, both festive-wise and fashion-wise.  The holiday season can make fashion so fun: the glamour of holiday parties, the little bits of festive for the day to day, and coziness of nights curling up over a glass of egg nog and a Christmas movie.

Over the next month I'll be focusing on all things festive for the holiday season! We'll be talking about cozy outfits for the chilly weekends, festive looks for office parties, and hair and beauty tips for New Years Eve!

I thought I'd start this Okanaganista Christmas out by talking about a huge trend coming up in 2013: metallics.  All you need is one piece in your outfit to make a statement: a silver tweed jacket, gunmetal grey jeggings, or a painted gold knit sweater. While it's still early for this trend, it's a perfect fit for the festive season! Metallics look terrific paired with rich reds and greens, and will transition nicely into spring paired with soft, romantic pastels and natural makeup.

Here are some tips to try wearing metallics:

  • Keep your accessories minimal since your metallic clothing is giving you sparkle and shine; stick with dainty pieces like gold studs or a small pendent on a chain.
  • Wear metallics with neutrals to let the gold or silver stand out on its own, making it the focus of your outfit. Try a cozy knit with metallic jeans, or a simple t-shirt under a silver jacket.
  • Wear one metallic tone at a time: the goal is to look polished, not like a disco ball so stick with either gold or silver, not both.

Have fun with metallics like gold and silver this month to ring in the Christmas season!

Have a fashionable Holiday Season!
