Fall-ing into summer

It's official, Kelowna is now in the midst of a full-on heatwave, with temperatures reaching the upper 30's this weekend.  I, for one, love the heat and take it as an opportunity to dive into the rest of my summer bucket list, as well as wearing my shorts and sandals and teeny tanks.

But while we here in the Okanagan are wearing our summer appropriate clothing, the fashion industry seems to be on another calendar where the weather is crisp and cool; fall fashion magazines are busting with this years autumnal trends, and the shops have been selling cozy knits and outerwear for weeks now.  Fashion addicts are following suit and starting to plan for the months ahead, but how can you incorporate the cooler weather trends with the current summer heat? That's what we're talking about this week!

Fall Trend: BurgundyThis years "it" shade for fall known as wine (how appropriate, right?!) a deep rich shade of burgundy.  This dark red hue with notes of brown and purple is perfect for pairing with the summers hottest trend, neon.  Mix this moody shade with pops of hot pink for a summer appropriate take on the "it" color.

Fall Trend: Leather/Pleather
Leather jackets have always been a classic for their ability to transfer any outfit into a hip and edgy look.  Designers are taking this element and infusing the same cool factor into skirts, shorts, and jeans.  The budget friendly alternative is pleather; just look for simple silhouettes like trouser shorts, pencil skirts, and skinny jeans to avoid the tacky look. The high street is coming out with waxed denim in full force this fall; with the appearance of leather but the comfort of denim, how can you go wrong?!  I like to pair my leather pieces with light, breezy materials like silk for the hotter months.  The contrasting fabrics play off each other for a perfect sweet and sexy combo.

Fall Trend: PlaidPlaid has been making an appearance every fall/winter season for years now and can be associated with cozy winter nights by the fire place with hot chocolate (or my personal favourite, a smooth Americano with just a dash of Bailey's).  Take this print into summer by mixing it with your summer denim pieces to show case its western vibe.  Another option? Contrast glam details like chandelier earrings and jeweled footwear to juxtapose the shirt's grungy, Seattle-in-the-90's vibe.
