All about Tie Dye!

The first do-it-yourself project (or DIY, if you will) I remember doing was making tie dyed shirts at my 5th birthday party. The results were quit satisfying; a plain white t-shirt had been transformed into a multicoloured creation, finished off with "Alana's 5th Birthday" splattered across the front.

Since that party, I have come across many DIY's that all promised pleasurable results, but since my last attempt at turning a blazer into a vest ended with frayed shoulder sticking out at odd angles, I've been a little more hesitant to really do much myself, creating-fashion-wise. It is too bad, because the tie dye and dip dye trends are super hot right now. Both have been seen all over the runways, and both are (I'm told) relatively easy to recreate at home with some dye and a bucket.  The clothing is also sold in stores with skirts, dresses, scarves, and jeans painted with the loud, busy patterns.

The look is already a fun and bold statement, so don't be afraid to add some colour to your outfit! Wearing a loose knit sweater with tie dyed jeans transforms it into a casual beach day look, and the bright pink high heels makes it date night appropriate.

Add neon to your tie dye for the perfect hot summer day look. And don't be afraid to add multiple colours to your look; by keeping the pieces structured, it comes across refined and girly not 90's grunge.

For just a dash of tie dye, add an accessory like a scarf.  It's so easy just to throw on with your white t-shirt and cutoffs or a feminine dress.

Feeling adventurous? Make your own piece, pick up some tie dye and transform an old shirt into a new creation!
