by Alana Denham - Story: 67079
Nov 11, 2011 / 5:00 am

I’ve received a number of e-mails asking how to build a wardrobe, and so I thought I would take a different approach this week and talk to you guys directly, by video! In it, I describe a number of items I believe are key to a working wardrobe. These are the pieces that you will wear on a regular basis, and you can eventually start to build on to cultivate your personal style. Remember, building a wardrobe is a process and takes time!

Your “Essentials” Check List:

  • Neutral colored Jacket like a leather bomber or a peacoat
  • Blazer in a solid color
  • Blouse in white or black
  • White or chambray button down
  • Basic t-shirt in a neutral solid color
  • Striped shirt in black or navy
  • Camisole in lace, silk, or cotton in white or black
  • Dark denim jeans
  • Dark colored skirt in any length
  • Trousers in a neutral color- black, beige, navy, gray, etc.
  • Flat slip on shoes like ballet flats or loafers
  • Leather boots in brown, black, or grey
  • Basic black pumps
