Spice up a basic t-shirt and jeans

Every woman must have a good set of jeans and a great fitting tee in her closet.  I confess, I am not generally a t-shirt person, but the challenge to style a t-shirt and jeans into something more exciting was eye opening. There are so many ways to make staple items like jeans and tees fashionable, from dressed up to dressed down, and is a great way to mix classic items with trendier pieces.

Add a vest: Here I added one of this season’s hottest trends: a faux fur vest. Adding a fur vest to a plain white tee and jeans is a good gateway into the look, and choosing flared jeans over skinnies gives the look a definitive 70’s vibe. If a faux fur vest isn’t your style, go for a sweater vest, long knit cardigan, or even a denim vest.

Commit to a style: Ripped jeans, a motorcycle jacket, and studded heels take this white t-shirt into a edgy street-inspired look.  Add a cardigan and pearls for a girly look, or boyfriend jeans and high tops for a sporty look. By adding the right extras, you can really show of your personal style in a lot of different ways with the same basic pieces.

Add a Blazer and statement necklace: This is one of my go to looks for fall! Adding a blazer to this outfit is quick and easy, but looks immediately sophisticated.  I added printed jeans (a hot fall trend) with the basic blazer and t-shirt to add a little more interest, but of course this look works with all jeans whether they are boyfriend, skinny, flared or colored.

Just add a scarf!: This is one of my favourite new fashion tricks: by wrapping a scarf around your neck and letting it hang in the front, you can belt it and make it look like a shirt!  You can also take this same idea with a larger scarf and cover your shoulders with it as well. Smaller square scarves can be used too.  Simply tie it  loosely around your neck like a necklace, and you’ve giving your tee a classic Hollywood starlet vibe!
