Denim is an essential part of our wardrobes, and never really goes out of style. Different cuts will come and go, and washes will change, but denim remains a staple. This fall, the hottest trend in jeans is colored denim. Now, a colored jean may seem intimidating, but they can be as versatile as your favorite indigo. The best advice I can give is wear them like you would your regular jeans!
Bring out the color: If you’re confident enough to try the colored jean trend, then you may just want to take it a step further and add another pop of color on top of your colored jeans. Adding another bright color to your outfit will transition you into the other huge trend of the season: color blocking. We saw this in the spring and summer, and it has easily transitioned into the fall. Bold, bright colors are everywhere from sweaters to shoes to bags, so pile them up in your outfit for a bold look. I paired my cranberry denim jeans with a bright red chunky sweater. An easy way to pair colors is to just add colors in the same tonal family, like red to cranberry, navy to cobalt blue, or emerald to forest green. For those of you who want a more subdued look, add a chunky pullover in a neutral color like oatmeal or ivory and pair with your favorite fall weather boots.
Keep it safe: If you’re hesitant to leap into the colored jean trend, pick up a color that is closer to a dark wash denim and treat like your regular jeans. These dark green jeans are similar to a darker denim hue, but when you get up close, the unexpected color adds just the right amount of interest. I wanted to pair these jeans with a girly look, so I paired a floral blouse and patent leather Mary Janes. The camel color of the coat is a safe neutral to add to your lower half, allowing the jeans to be the statement.
Add some pattern: These mustard yellow jeans are quickly becoming my favorite denim in my closet. It surprised me how versatile this color really is! When pairing deep browns and greys with these , it transforms the outfit into a look that is both laid back and cozy. The patterns of the striped shirt and western style sweater compliment the pant, since they are neutral colors. The rich brown color and soft suede texture of the desert boots add perfectly to this relaxed weekend outfit. To transition these jeans into evening, I would add a neutral heel, a textured top, and a sleek blazer.
