Bring out the WOW in summer fashion

You probably don’t think of jackets as summer essentials, especially in the Okanagan, but a jacket, especially the right one, can transform your outfit from “meh” to “wow!”

For this season, the hottest cover-ups are a mix of classics, currents and some new oriental flair.

For several seasons now, the blazer has been ubiquitous. It began with the boyfriend blazer in blacks and navy, but now we’re seeing a shift into every kind of cut, pattern and colour.

This summer, make sure you pick one in a fun color and pair it with your shorts and summer dresses. A coloured or patterned blazer can take your daytime shorts and tank top into evening by adding heels and jewelry.

Another classic cover-up that is making a huge revival (and will always be found in my closet) is the jean jacket.

This year we’re seeing them worn with everything from cotton floral dresses to fancier frocks. This jacket is a perfect way to dress down an outfit and making it a bit more on the cool side. To stay on trend, choose a cropped faded version, or if you want to push the envelope a tad, try an edgier motorcycle-cut for a completely different look.

Lastly, the biggest fashion-forward trend both on the streets and on the runways is the Kimono. I LOVE this trend!

A kimono in classic silk is the perfect summer item, lightweight for those hot summer days when you need some shielding from the sun. It is also a great beach cover up! Throw it over your bikini and  jean shorts when you need to go from the beach to the street.
