From London with love

Rhys and I were married on Saturday, and are now honeymooning in Europe!  As lovers of fashion and culture, our first stop had to be London.  The flight was long, but our first few days on the streets have made the trip well worth it!

As we walked along Oxford street this afternoon, I couldn't help but notice the amazing high street fashion and thinking that Kelowna really isn't that far behind, fashion-wise.  A lot of trends I've been seeing involve mixing and matching classic pieces in new and interesting ways, and I believe they'll soon be making a big hit in the Valley.

Shoes: Oxfords, bruges, and loafers; these staples of British menswear are everywhere on the streets, on men and women equally.  Smartly cobbled shoes create can dress up an otherwise casual outfit, or provide the perfect finish to a dressy one.

My favourites are some blue suede loafers (hello Elvis) I found at Topshop, and I'm planning on picking up a pair with tassels! Other shoes I'm dying on picking up are biker boots with lace accents that look great with slouchy socks.

Denim: I lost Rhys in Topshop, and when I finally found him again he said "Thank goodness I found you, there are blond girls in jean jackets all over this store!"  It's true, denim is all over the place this season with vests, button ups, jean shorts and yes, denim jackets mixed and remixed.

Patterns: British men are LOVING gingham right now, pairing a well-tailored shirt with dark denim, great shoes and subtly textured blazer.  Girls can be seen wearing it too, but the floral prints are the pattern du jour right now.  Big florals, tiny florals, and all sizes in-between are commonly seen in tops and dresses, but for the biggest statement, go for the floral patterned pants!

Jackets: While summer may be almost in full swing back home, it's been a little bit chilly in London.  This works fantastic for me, because I have a real soft spot for great jackets!  While walking down Oxford Street, I was constantly distracted by the amazing trench coats, jean jackets, leather motorcycle jackets, and kimonos that were walking by!  It's my goal this week to find the perfect motorcycle jacket to bring back home and throw over maxi dresses, loose floral tops, jean shorts and tailored trousers.

With Love from London, Alana
