Charles Henry dePfyffer

Passed away peacefully on July 4, 2012 at the age of 87, as a result of a heart attack. Charles is predeceased by his brother Robert (Bob) and survived by his wife Joan of 64 years, two sisters Alice and Marie (Reno), four childr3en Russell (Janeene), Christine (Bill), Jerryl (Paul) and Richard, eleven grand children and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was a long time resident of Kelowna having moved here in August of 1932 with his mother and father and brother Bob; his two sisters completed their family after settling here. It goes without saying that Charles has seen many changes to this beautiful city of Kelowna, When he first moved here Pandosy Street was a dirt road and the outskirts of town was KLO Road. A trip East Kelowna was exactly that, a day trip. His passions in his teen years were skiing, boating, hiking and a somewhat moderate amount of shenanigans with his many friends. He had numerous employers over the years; Kelowna Growers Supply, KGE Packing House, the tug boats and most significantly H.R. Tostenson Royalite Oil Company. In 1968 he bought the KLO General Store in East Kelowna and was the proud owner for 20 years. Charles was also very proud of his community and served 46 years in the Kelowna Central Lions Club. He also belonged to the Okanagan Historical Society for 40 years. After retiring in 1988 his passions were gardening, golf, traveling the world and playing bridge. He was meticulous in his work, projects being methodically planned out and executed with nary a mistake. Charles was a kind gentle man and will be sorely missed by many. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm Monday July 9th in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave. Donations can be made to your favorite charity. Condolences maybe sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com and searching his name under stories. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC (250)762-2299.
