To the Wittur family, I had the good fortune of meeting Richard through another great man....Mike. The many memories I will have of Richard will be of the great times and get togethers where we behaved like kids....enjoying good laughter and just hanging out. My thoughts are with you at this time. Richard will be missed.....Lynn Tamaki

Very sorry to learn of Richard's passing. As I wrote to a mutual friend, he was definitely one of the good guys. And internationally respected, also, as witnessed by our sentiments from the USA

We knew him from snowbirding in AZ & CA & enjoyed many days of his excellent company (& awesome martinis !)

If heaven has different areas & cultures, I'm sure he's traveling around to each & making new friends in all

    We'll miss him alot

The Central Okanagan Outdoors Club, formerly the Central Okanagan Hiking Club, lost a dear, dear friend in Richard. I first met him in 1999 through my partner, Carmen Dyck. We both remember his friendly smile, always there, no matter what the hiking challenge or the weather. Every hike, no matter where it was, Richard would always tell club members: "We're almost there. It's just over the next hill. It's just around the corner." He introduced club members to the Okanagan's most fantastic places, the hidden jewels, places we still go. The club was always about Friends Hiking With Friends and he was always one of the best friends to all of us! Every day since we heard of his passing, we have thought of him. He will be sadly missed. By us. And by the club.
