96 wonderful years

Ida was one of 12 children born to Prairie Pioneers Gottfried and Amelia Miller. Ida was born in Wilkie Sask. She was raised in Leduc Alberta, then moved to Kelowna B.C. in 1944.

Ida worked for a time in Chapins Café, it was at that time she met and married the love of her life Albert Wittich in 1945. The first few years of their marriage were very busy with several moves and the addition of five children to their family. They moved to Westbank B.C. in 1968 and it was there they stayed. First renting on acreage where they grew a huge garden and raised rabbits and chickens. They then built a house closer to town where they lived for many years. Ida was a lovely lady, a loving loyal wife and a great Mother. She did not work outside the home but boy did she work in it. The house, husband and kids were kept spic and span. Ida did all her own canning of fruit and jams. She also over the years canned moose, deer, fish, and chicken. She was an excellent cook and baker. Albert could not live without her pies and homemade bread. Besides their large vegetable garden, Mom loved growing flowers with shade and fruit trees mixed in. Mom and Dad loved animals and usually had a dog and a cat or two around the house. Ida also spent many years crocheting blankets for her children and many grandchildren. One of their greatest pleasures was getting the family together on holidays and birthdays. For the last few years of their lives both Albert and Ida resided in the Village at Smith Creek, which happens to be almost on top of the spot where the rented acreage had been. Ida was a Christian, she had been saved once and baptized twice. She was an avid Bible reader and prayed daily for her ever growing family. Ida and Albert were a loving couple for over 70 years before Albert passed away in 2015. They held hands whenever they walked together. Albert has been waiting for almost two years for his Sweetheart, now they are walking hand in hand again in Heaven. Mom had a wonderful Mother’s Day, filled with visits, flowers, cards and love. Tuesday May 16, four of the family took Mom out for lunch where she really enjoyed a Monte Cristo sandwich, fries, and visiting. Friday May 19 Mom suffered two strokes over the course of the day. From Friday on, family members and friends were at her side. Wed. May 24 at 12:01 with three of her beloved children at her bedside, Mom went home to heaven into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. Ida is survived by five children Garry (Gloria) Wittich, Sandra (Mark) Wittner, Sharon (Jude) Hunter, Dale (Diane) Wittich, Elva (Al) Webber, 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-great-grandson, 1 Brother Philip [Kathy] Miller, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives of all sorts and many friends. Ida was predeceased by her loving husband Albert in June 2015, 4 sisters and six brothers.

We would like to thank all the staff at The Village at Smith Creek for their wonderful care of both our Mom Ida and our late Dad Albert. You all go above and beyond to make a very difficult time at the end of a person’s life be dignified and you made our family feel loved and very well cared for. Our thanks from the whole clan.

Ida’s Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Emmanuel Church 2600 Hebert Road, Westbank, with refreshments to follow. Officiated by Pastor Jeff Bjorgan. Graveside service will follow at 1:00PM at the Westbank Cemetery 3200 Elliot Road, Westbank.

To the whole Wittich family but also to:
Elva & family, Garry & family and my dear friend Shauna...
Elva and Garry, I'm really sorry for the loss of both your Mom and Dad. Not living in Westbank anymore, I don't hear much.
But I do remember your Mom and Dad very much so and how they always walked hand in hand.
I used to think to myself how I hoped that would be me and my spouse 1 day when I reach their age. They truly were 1 of Westbank's absolute most loved & recognized couple and I know they will be missed by you, your families and all the long time Westbankers!!
And my dear Shauna, sorry for your loss sweetie. Your Gramma and Grampa were Westbank's cutest couple. I honestly don't think there is or was another couple like them.
Bet they are just tickled to be together again!
May they both Rest In Peace...
My deepest condolences to all of you and your families!
    Love Kim Petretta (Pizza Plus)
