WARAWA, Kim Grant

WARAWA, Kim Grant

June 18, 1953 - September 19, 2019

After a very brave and courageous 10-year battle with cancer, the angels have welcomed Kim to Heaven with his family by his side at Kelowna Hospice on September 19, 2019.
Kim was predeceased by his parents, Eddie & Pauline/Neta Warawa and older brother, Mark Warawa. Kim will be lovingly remembered by his sisters: Judy (Jim) Hopper, & Lori (Carlo) Bussani; Children: Amy (Jason) Roscoe, Dusty (Gemma), & Jesse Warawa; Grandchildren: Owen, Andy, & Bentley; Long-time girlfriend Denise Hauck-Schacher and her son, Connor Schacher; and many wonderful friends.
Kim has blessed us all with his youthful zest and love for life. He really did live his life to the fullest and had such a “love for the game”. Over his lifetime, he was very involved in football, basketball, volleyball and slo-pitch. Kim was an incredible mentor and leader who provided integrity, support and guidance to many players on and off the field. His competitive and playful character will never be forgotten.
Kim always had a passion for business. He was known for his incredible work ethic and was never afraid to take risks to reach his goals. One of his greatest accomplishments with the help of his partner, Mike Newman, was taking the smallest insurance office in Kelowna called “Southern Insurance” and turning it into one of the largest brokerages in BC. His unique approach of incorporating a family culture into the business not only lead to a successful business model but changed the lives of many under his employ.
Kim has been very generous in helping those in need not only here in Kelowna but as far away as Thailand and Mexico. In lieu of flowers, Kim would have appreciated a donation to one of his charities: HOPE for the Nations, www.hopeforthenations.com, Kelowna Women’s Shelter, kelownawomensshelter.ca, and 100 Heroes that Give a Damn, 100heroeskelowna.com. Also, September 19th will now forever be known as “Kim Warawa Day”. This will be a day when the Warawa family will be raising money each year to spend the day giving back to the community. If you would like to be a part of this, please contact Dusty at (250) 470-0115.
A special heart filled thank you to all the amazing staff at the Hospice house and Dr. Wade for providing the care and compassion that Kim deserved.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for the family and close friends. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com.

    Dusty, Jesse and Mike,

It is a terrible loss for you and our community. It has been years but I will never forget how that great big smile would always welcome you. He was the consummate professional and most importantly a loyal friend and loving father who was immensely proud of his children and partner.

    Great big hugs,

    Jan Cooper

    Dusty and Jesse,

I worked with your Dad and Laurie at the office by Safeway then again with Kim at Southern. Your Dad was always so humble and kind, he loved you both so very much and was always proud of your accomplishments. I'm very sorry for your loss.

    With sympathy,

Simply no one better than Kim. If you didn't know this free spirit, happy go lucky, younger than life guy you might just think he was a dashing "surfer type" guy that looked younger than his years. And good for him...But if you were a friend you knew a deep, truly caring human being. Kim leaves a huge void in a lot of our lives. Rest in peace friend. Blake Roberts / Marlene Braun

Dear Warawa family, I am so sorry for your loss of Kim. I met Kim at Dilworth Safeway when he started his insurance company in that plaza. I remember he was always so friendly and had the most amazing smile always. May your treasured memories bring you comfort at this very difficult time.

Kim was such an inspiration for me. I will never forget the time we spoke about my wife's cancer. He was late for a dinner with the family but he stayed and listened. Kim gave me advice and hope.

I had the privilege of being his dentist for almost three decades.

I will miss his enthusiasm for life

My condolences to all his family and friends.
