TURRI, Caesar

TURRI, Caesar

CAESAR TURRI (1924-2021) - Caesar passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021, at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his wife Nita (2017), by his parents Samuel and Maria Turri and by his siblings Olinto Turri, Katie Mass, Hazel Zazzara, and Beatrice Pritchard. Caesar is lovingly remembered by his children Linda (Gabe) Coupal (children Heather, Nicole, and Alain), Don (Lucy) Turri (children Samantha, Luke, and Mary), Audrey (Lloyd) Bucharest (children Alyson and Rob), and 7 great-grandchildren. Born and living his entire life in Kelowna (other than time spent in the RCAF during WW II), Caesar will be remembered for his involvement in the community. He was a past president and long time member of the Kelowna Canadian Italian Club and a 28-year volunteer for the Kelowna Fire Department. He participated in the Glenmore Neighbourhood Watch Program and the Kelowna Fish and Game Club. Caesar served the City of Kelowna for many years, as Superintendent of Water and Waste Management. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, winemaking, listening to music, and dancing. Throughout his retirement, he and Nita enjoyed travelling, an annual two-week fishing derby at Mabel Lake, and spending time helping their children and grandchildren. Caesar put a smile on everyone’s face with his great sense of humour. He had a wonderful presence wherever he was and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Caesar lived by the motto, “Mustn’t grumble” and enjoyed his life to the fullest. Thank you to the very attentive and loving staff at The Village at Mill Creek, for all the care given to Caesar, during his final years. Due to current Covid 19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at St. Charles Garnier Catholic Church in Kelowna, (Please see link below). A larger gathering will take place, at a later date, when restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Turri Family Fund at the Central Okanagan Foundation (to provide scholarships to Okanagan students). I am late with this message. Caesar was one of the first new friends I made when Sheila and I moved to Kelowna in 1986. We attended local dances together, travel to Alaska, and camped dozens of times together. Caesar had to get a campfire going first thing. The last trip he and I went by car down 33 Highway and then around to Penticton and then home. As usual he was quick to put his hand in his pocket, he bought ice cream at OK Falls because I had bought the gas!!! He shared his favorite " fishing lakes" "duck ponds" and access to property with me. He was a very ethical hunter and fisher. Never once did I see him break a rule or law in the field. I use to question his rule of firing only 2 shots when hunting water fowl. ( 3 was the legal limit) I have mailed some pictures to you Don, you could share them with the rest of the family please. In normal times there would not have been a hall or church in Kelowna that would have held all the folks that wanted to pay their respects. I will miss visiting with him. Take care be safe

So sorry to hear of Mr. Turri’s passing. One of my fondest memories was of he and his wife having the football team for breakfast. The sausages were so good. He was always a true gentleman. Rest In Peace.

Caesar and my dad were best of friends ever since I can remember. Whether it was fishing, hunting, making wine, or making sausage, they were always laughing and joking and having a great time together. Caesar was real character and a true gentleman. RIP “uncle Caesar”. Dean Martin

I had the pleasure of meeting Caesar in the 70's when I was starting my career in the water and waste industry. He stood out in a crowd, always with that huge smile . Always enjoyed meeting him and talking with him!

    Rest In Peace Caesar.

I used to run into Caesar and Nita occasionally, and always enjoyed their stories about growing up in Kelowna, and their friendship with my dad. Great memories for all of his family...

    Turri family..

I first met Caesar when we were both with the Kelowna Fire Dept. in about 1975.

He was a great guy to be around and a great guy to have on your side with his knowledge in the fire service. We met camping in Revelstoke one time and low and behold got into his wine until late in the evening. Great time .
